Maracajau is known for it's natural snorkeling pools just off the coast, and is located just half an hour north of Natal.

As the north coast has started developing later than the south, it has more virgin beaches, which attracts a better clientèle. Also, villages like Maracajau are relatively small; and although a bit messy, it will take only a few dozen foreigners to turn the local's homes into cute souvenir shops and restaurants.
